[Zuckerberg: AI Labs Should Rely on Independent Assessments to Ensure Safety, Not Uniformly Slow Down Development]
According to Bloomberg, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that AI labs should introduce independent assessment agencies and consultants to ensure model safety, rather than waiting for the entire industry to reach a consensus on slowing down development. He mentioned that Meta had independently delayed the release of its AI tool Muse by several months to enhance safety and protection, without requiring other companies to pause simultaneously. Zuckerberg's stance contrasts with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's call to slow down the development of the most advanced AI systems. On the same day, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang remarked that safety is a top priority but is an engineering issue, and companies can pause releases if products become uncontrollable or unsafe. He believes safety and rapid development are not mutually exclusive and that there is no need for additional AI safety regulations.
