[Sanders and Others Propose 'Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act,' Individuals Violating Could Face Up to 20 Years in Prison]
According to TechSpot and an announcement from U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders' office, Sanders and Representative Greg Casar have announced plans to propose the 'Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act.' The bill seeks to permanently prohibit the development and deployment of superintelligent AI and temporarily halt advanced AI development until a new federal AI regulatory agency establishes safety rules and model review mechanisms.
The bill also proposes the creation of a cabinet-level federal agency responsible for monitoring the dangerous capabilities of cutting-edge AI systems, overseeing the removal of such capabilities, and dismantling superintelligent systems. Entities attempting to violate or circumvent the moratorium and ban could face 'corporate death penalties,' while individuals could face up to 20 years in prison.
