[OpenAI Acquires Smartphone Camera Manufacturer Glass Imaging for Over $300 Million]
According to TechCrunch, citing The Wall Street Journal, OpenAI has acquired smartphone camera manufacturer Glass Imaging in a deal valued at over $300 million. Glass Imaging leverages AI to overcome the physical size limitations of smartphone cameras. Instead of using AI to edit photos after they are taken, the company employs neural networks to learn from different camera systems, generating better images from the moment the shutter is pressed.
Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Los Altos, California, Glass Imaging previously raised approximately $30 million from investors. The company was established by former Apple engineers Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, who had previously led the team responsible for developing Apple's Portrait Mode.
