Just saw the news that Anthropic's CEO is calling to slow down the advancement of cutting-edge large model capabilities, citing reasons like safety risks, loss of control, and potential economic impacts. At the same time, OpenAI's CEO and xAI's Elon Musk have also publicly expressed agreement. No wonder the market dipped again—haven’t been trading AI recently, and with this drop, the overall AI profits from recent times aren’t looking great. Different stocks are showing mixed results, some losses, some gains.
I don’t have a fully formed opinion on this yet—it’s too late to think deeply about it now. Just jotting down a rough, immature thought: I tend to believe that the governments of China and the U.S. definitely won’t consider slowing down. In this race, whoever moves faster will hold the narrative and possibly an unbeatable position later on. How could they slow down?
As for these companies, I’m inclined to think this is just a smokescreen to confuse other competitors. If they’re serious, let’s see them slow down first.
