On Friday, we broke ground in Bernard Lodge for 700 new homes built for hard-working Jamaicans, including minimum wage earners and those just below middle income.
The housing challenge comes down to a shortage of actual physical structures available for lower-income families. Our research shows that many Jamaicans living in informal settlements are active NHT contributors with saved down payments, but they cannot find a housing solution on the market that fits their budget.
To solve this, the government is making land available specifically for affordable developments to rapidly boost the supply of homes so everyday Jamaicans can own a place of their own.
