Ethlabs Researcher: Collaboration Between Base and Ethereum L1 Account Abstraction Standards Breaks Down, Different Approaches to Be Implemented

Foresight News reports that Ethlabs researcher Derek Chiang disclosed in a post that the collaboration between EIP-8130 (led by Base) and EIP-8141 (led by Ethereum L1, also known as Frame Transactions) on account abstraction (AA) standards officially broke down last week. Ethereum and Base will each proceed with different AA standards. He pointed out that there is a fundamental divergence in core objectives between L1 and L2: Ethereum L1 prioritizes censorship resistance, privacy protection, and quantum resistance, while L2 solutions like Base prioritize high throughput, compliance, and customizability. The two sides had attempted to find a common standard that balanced both priorities, but any solution would require at least one party to compromise on its core objectives. Ultimately, no consensus was reached, and the burden of fragmentation will shift to wallet developers. He believes there are two paths forward: establishing a coordination mechanism involving more stakeholders to jointly govern shared resources like the EVM, or accepting the inevitability of fragmentation between L1 and L2 and focusing on building wallets and applications capable of abstracting and masking underlying differences.
