[India's Wealthiest State Explores Tokenizing Assets to Fund New Infrastructure Development]
According to CoinDesk, India's wealthiest state, Maharashtra, is formulating policies to tokenize state-owned assets on-chain, including power transmission infrastructure, with the proceeds used to build new transmission lines and energy storage facilities. Praveen Pardeshi, CEO of the state's transformation agency MITRA, stated that transmission lines themselves can be partially tokenized, with a proportion of 40% to 50%. Token holders can share in the transmission revenue, and the newly raised funds will be used to construct more transmission lines and solar energy storage centers. Maharashtra accounts for approximately 14% of India's nominal GDP and has a population of about 130 million. Pardeshi emphasized that tokenization does not equate to privatization but rather allows more citizens to participate in the development of public assets. The state also plans to draft India's first blockchain property tokenization law.
