[TD Securities Abandons Prediction of Fed Holding Steady: Three Rate Hikes Expected Starting September]
Odaily Planet Daily News - TD Securities strategists stated on Friday that they now expect the Federal Reserve to initiate the first of three rate hikes in September, revising their earlier forecast that the central bank would remain on hold for the rest of 2026. Strategists, including Oscar Munoz and Gennadiy Goldberg, wrote in a report released Friday: 'We anticipate a total of three rate hikes in this cycle, with the subsequent hikes occurring in October and January next year. The Fed may not provide forward guidance, but the dot plot is likely to lean hawkish.'
This adjustment in expectations comes after the release of the U.S. August CPI data on Friday, which exceeded forecasts. The data prompted traders to increase their expectations for near-term rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. The strategists noted in the report: 'Following the August CPI showing a lack of progress in inflation, we expect the Federal Reserve to initiate the rate hike cycle in September.'
