[Unauthorized Access to Japan Digital Agency Servers, 246,000 Records Possibly Leaked]
According to Bloomberg, Japan's Digital Agency disclosed that its Government Solution Service (GSS) network experienced unauthorized access at the end of June through a maintenance account. Attackers exploited a vulnerability in the virtual private network (VPN) to extract files on a large scale, potentially leading to the leakage of personal information such as names, email addresses, and phone numbers of approximately 246,000 public officials and related personnel using the system. The Digital Agency stated that no improper use directly linked to this incident has been discovered so far. However, Japan recorded 123 ransomware attacks nationwide in the first half of this year, marking a new semi-annual high since government statistics began.
