OpenAI Launches Agents API Public Beta, Supporting Fully Managed Cloud Agents and Custom Sandboxes
PANews|Sep 11, 2026 03:14
OpenAI announced that the Agents API is now open for public beta to all developers, enabling the construction and operation of cloud-based agents based on the Codex agent framework. OpenAI handles model invocation, tool usage, task orchestration, long-term conversations, and context management, while developers can define agent capabilities and select code execution and file processing environments. Developers can integrate their own sandboxes or third-party services, choosing configurations for CPU, GPU, memory, file, and key storage as needed, supporting fully managed environments or deployment within their own VPC. The first batch of deep integration partners includes Blaxel, Cloudflare, Daytona, DigitalOcean, E2B, Modal, Oracle, Runloop, and Vercel.
