Global cross-border payment company MoneyGram has announced a partnership with stablecoin issuance infrastructure platform Rain, wallet service provider Crossmint, and Stellar to launch its first stablecoin-backed Visa digital card in Colombia. Expanding its business from cross-border remittances to everyday spending scenarios, the card is issued as a digital card within the MoneyGram app and can be linked to mainstream mobile payment methods for online or Tap-to-Pay transactions. Cardholders can hold USD stablecoin balances to make purchases at any merchant that accepts Visa or withdraw their balance at any time to receive local fiat cash at MoneyGram's offline locations. The platform currently supports USDC settlements at launch, and an official spokesperson revealed plans to integrate MGUSD, MoneyGram's self-developed USD stablecoin introduced in June, in the near future.
