A MAJOR quantum leap. 🔥
Researchers just cut a benchmark for ONE STEP in a potential Bitcoin and Ethereum attack by over 50%, per CoinDesk.
More than 100 participants worked alongside AI coding agents for roughly eight weeks.
They reduced the computing resources needed for a calculation that could eventually help unlock crypto wallets.
Their result BEAT Google’s earlier benchmark, although the comparison is not perfectly like-for-like.
But, Bitcoin and Ethereum have NOT been cracked.
The improvement covers one step, not a complete attack.
Of note, NO existing quantum computer can use it to break either network today.
Better software can lower the barrier even before better hardware arrives.
“It is urgent because the remedy takes years and cannot be applied retroactively,” lead author Jieyi Long said.(Coin Bureau)
