[India Reportedly Favors the Use of Central Bank Digital Currencies in BRICS Payments]
Jin10 News, September 10 – According to informed sources, India will advocate for BRICS countries to expand the use of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) for cross-border payments but will not support a unified payment network that could be perceived as challenging the U.S. dollar.
Sources indicate that, as India holds the rotating presidency of BRICS this year, Prime Minister Modi is inclined toward using CBDCs to settle bilateral trade between member countries. However, sources also noted that it is unlikely for an agreement on a unified BRICS payment settlement system to be reached at the leaders' summit held this weekend in New Delhi.
