[EU Proposes Including Crypto Service Providers in Local Contact Person Mandate]
According to AML Intelligence, the European Commission has passed an enabling act proposing to extend the 'Central Contact Point' (CCP) framework to Crypto Asset Service Providers (CASPs). This would grant member state regulatory authorities the power to require crypto exchanges and other institutions operating within their countries to designate local contact persons. Previously, this framework was only applicable to electronic money institutions and payment institutions. The revision aims to incorporate crypto service providers into the anti-money laundering and compliance regulatory network, enabling regulatory bodies to establish fixed points of contact within their jurisdictions and enhance information exchange and enforcement coordination.
