[Robinhood CEO Responds to AMC Criticism: Public Companies Cannot Control Tokenization of Their Stocks]
According to CNBC, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev addressed AMC's criticism in a recent interview, stating that once a public company's stock is traded openly, other financial institutions should have the right to issue related financial products around those stocks without needing prior approval from the stock issuer. Vlad Tenev explained that Robinhood's stock tokens are issued by independent entities and backed by underlying stocks, and therefore should not automatically require the issuer's consent.
Previously, AMC CEO Adam Aron had strongly criticized Robinhood for tokenizing AMC stocks, arguing that this move bypasses the issuing company, undermines the traditional relationship between the company and its shareholders, and that token holders do not possess voting rights for the underlying stocks.
