Since before Hurricane Melissa, I have listened closely to our citizens. When you tell me to focus less on discussion and more on delivering results, I take that to heart. While open dialogue and public consultation are essential pillars of our democracy, I fully agree that our words must always be backed by swift, meaningful action.
Behind the scenes, we have completed tens of thousands of damage assessments, surveyed thousands of properties, and secured financing. To move at the speed you deserve, we are fixing our slow procurement rules and using the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority to drive the work.
Our standard government system was made for everyday business, not extraordinary disasters. As we see with our current drought, we must build for all shocks.(Andrew Holness)
