[Liquid Releases Security Incident Update: Network Currently Suspended, Emergency Fix for Elements v23.3.4 in Progress]
According to a security incident update released by Liquid Network early this morning, a vulnerability in the proof verification cache of the Elements software was exploited. The attacker minted approximately 4,000 LBTC without BTC reserve backing and exchanged them for BTC via SideSwap, causing the reserves to drop from around 4,205 BTC to 197 BTC. The attacker, claiming to be a white hat, has returned 3,400 BTC, with approximately 598.5 BTC still pending recovery. The network is currently suspended, and the team is working on an emergency fix for Elements v23.3.4.
