[Escalation of U.S.-Iran Conflict, Brent Crude Futures Surge Near $100 Intraday]
BlockBeats News, September 9, according to a report by *The Wall Street Journal*, U.S. officials revealed that the U.S. military launched a new round of strikes on Iranian oil tankers on Tuesday. The direct cause was Tehran's recent attacks on U.S. naval vessels in the Middle East. The U.S. claimed its forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil transport ships. Previously, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had twice used ballistic missiles to attack a U.S. Navy warship over the past two days. The U.S. warship successfully evaded Iran's attacks and continued its patrol mission in regional waters. No U.S. personnel were injured.
Iran also stated that in response to the U.S. attacks on multiple Iranian oil tankers, it would issue warnings to all tankers docked at Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports and anchorages, demanding that relevant crew members immediately evacuate the vessels, claiming these ships would become targets of strikes. In subsequent retaliatory actions, Iran launched missile strikes on U.S. targets within Jordan. Jordan reported that Iran fired 20 ballistic missiles into its territory.
As a result of these developments, Brent crude oil futures rose to their highest level since late July on Tuesday, with the settlement price nearing $98 per barrel and intraday prices briefly approaching the $100 mark. WTI crude oil futures closed near $93 per barrel, marking the highest level since early June.
