Oil prices, oil prices, still the damn oil prices. WTI, CL, BZ, Bitcoin, US stocks.
This afternoon, news about the Houthis and Saudi Arabia's strikes pushed WTI above 94, and then immediately: 'Iran: Major progress achieved in the Hormuz Strait.'
Plus, Saudi Arabia: 'The diplomatic path with the Houthis is still open.' Thankfully, this forced oil prices back below 93, fluctuating without staying firmly above 93-94.
If oil prices continue to rise this week to the next range of 95-98 or even exceed 100 for an extended period, even if there’s no rate hike in September, Walsh will definitely lean more hawkish for October and December. In that case, Bitcoin and US stocks won’t be able to escape unscathed.
For now, Bitcoin hasn’t dropped much and is still in the 785-81 range. Let’s see if there’s a geopolitical turnaround this week—after all, the midterm elections are getting closer. Plus, there’s the East Asian visit to the US this month.
Personally, I think the 9/11 CPI data shouldn’t look too bad, but that alone isn’t enough. We still need oil prices to turn around and drop.
Let’s see if Trump steps in to intervene this week.
Really regret not doing a swing trade on oil shorts. Holding them for two months now—those fees are killing me.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s script prediction, hoping for a decent outcome.
DYOR.
