🐋 WHALE WATCH : The 30 year mortgage interest rate in the US is currently around 6.71% still a fairly high range when looking back at long term history.
Notably this rate once dropped to just 2.65% in 2021 then rose sharply and at times reached around 7.79%. Even just a few percentage points of difference can cause a very significant change in the monthly payment for a home.
High interest rates dont just affect homebuyers. They also impact purchasing power the real estate market and more broadly expectations about monetary policy.
If mortgage rates continue to stay above 6% the pressure on homebuyers in the US likely wont end anytime soon.(Whale Factor)
