Only about 15 months after Tether led its Series A round, Chilean crypto exchange Orionx has announced its permanent closure. A legal audit revealed over $7 million in customer assets were transferred to unmanaged wallets, and withdrawals have been suspended.
The audit compared internal records with on-chain data, uncovering gaps in the custody addresses for Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and POL. The company has filed criminal charges against co-founders Roberto Zibert and Joaquín Díaz, who deny the allegations. The disputed transfers reportedly occurred between 2018 and 2021.
