[Vitalik Refutes Silicon Valley Investor's 'AI Will Kill BTC' Argument: Probability of Hash Algorithm or PoW Being Broken Is Negligible]
Odaily Planet Daily News: Silicon Valley angel investor Liron Shapira (@liron) posted on X this morning, stating, 'I assert (with 50% confidence): Due to AI shaking the perceived security and robustness guarantees of Bitcoin, the price of BTC will plummet by more than 50% within the next two years.'
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin refuted this, saying: 'I hold the completely opposite view. My fundamental reasoning is that, in the long term, I am quite optimistic about cybersecurity. I believe the main challenge lies in how to navigate the transition period smoothly. Moreover, I think BTC is at least capable of properly handling all issues that do not require social consensus to resolve (for example, upgrading clients, mining pools, etc., to address network-layer attacks fall into this category). Additionally, I believe the probability of the hash algorithm or proof-of-work mechanism being truly broken is negligible. I was tempted to make a bet with you, but considering my current asset allocation (and I guess you hold a similar view regarding Ethereum ETH), I’ve already staked about 90% of my net worth on this bet.'
