Robinhood Chain's recent hype is like the ultimate mashup of DeFi Summer × GameStop retail frenzy × 4chan meme culture.
RWA has always been considered the most boring, least incentivized, and hardest-to-promote sector in the industry. Who would’ve thought that pairing it with meme coins/stocks would make it explode?
Although Robinhood has a massive traditional retail user base, if you take a closer look at the activity on Robinhood Chain, you’ll find that the majority of the traffic doesn’t actually come from Robinhood’s official app itself, but from third-party aggregator apps. This shows that aggregators like fomo/gmgn will likely become even bigger winners in the future. — We haven’t yet seen a massive influx of new retail users crossing over into this space; it’s still very much a party happening within the crypto industry.
Solana made a major strategic misstep when it came to tokenizing U.S. stocks. The Solana Foundation heavily incentivized xStocks’ liquidity on Solana, but then let xStocks get acquired by Kraken. This kind of situation is tricky: either you invest directly and form a deep alliance, or you design an extremely aligned incentive mechanism. If you’re just throwing money into an ecosystem, you’ll eventually realize that there’s hardly any loyalty to the chain itself.
