[Renowned DeFi Researcher Questions Ethereum's L2 Strategy: Robinhood's Revenue Surges While L1 Settlement Layer Earns Minimal—Is This a Problem?]
BlockBeats News, September 6: Renowned DeFi researcher Ignas pointed out that Robinhood's L2 only paid approximately $722 to the underlying layer yesterday, while Robinhood itself achieved a record-breaking $6 million in transaction fee revenue on the same day. About 10% of this flowed to Arbitrum, with an almost negligible amount reaching Ethereum's L1. Based on this, Ignas questioned: Is this structure, where platforms make significant profits while the settlement layer earns almost nothing, a problem for Ethereum?
Ethereum might currently be using low fees to attract TradFi into its ecosystem, with the intention of raising its cut once user migration costs become sufficiently high. If the official roadmap indeed includes a strategy of 'first attracting L2s in large numbers, then monetizing L1 after switching costs increase,' this could be bullish for ETH. However, this approach is not evident in Ethereum's current roadmap.
