[Ethereum L2 Strategy Questioned: Robinhood Earns $6 Million Daily, Yet Ethereum Struggles to Get a Share]
According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on September 6, DeFi researcher Ignas posted that Robinhood previously set a single-day record of over $6 million in transaction fees, with approximately 10% flowing to Arbitrum. However, the revenue ultimately allocated to Ethereum L1 was described as 'pitiful.' Ignas suggested that this model might not be entirely unacceptable—similar to how Uber initially used subsidies to drive growth, Ethereum could potentially leverage L2 to attract traditional financial businesses into its ecosystem and gradually increase 'rent' once high switching costs are established within the ecosystem.
However, Ignas noted that if Ethereum developers could formulate a clear strategy to first attract more L2s and then monetize once their switching costs are sufficiently high, this could actually become a long-term business model beneficial to L1. Yet, such a clear strategy has not been observed in Ethereum's roadmap so far, prompting Ignas to question: 'Or am I misunderstanding something?'
