Robinhood Chain made $15.15M in a week, while Ethereum only got $1,700
When I first saw these numbers, I thought ETH was missing a “million” at the end.
Over the past 7 days, Robinhood Chain (HOOD) raked in about $15.15M from building the chain and Gas fees.
Uniswap set up the trading pairs, earning around $2.28M in protocol revenue.
Arbitrum provided the tech stack, taking about $1.69M.
And finally, Ethereum, responsible for the underlying settlement and security: about $1,700.
This is just wild. The casino owner makes $15M, the table setup guy makes $2M+, the casino system seller makes $1M+, and the one responsible for the building’s foundation and security only gets $1,700.
This highlights the most brutal issue for L2s right now:
Ethereum can support an ever-growing amount of economic activity, but the value capture doesn’t necessarily flow back to ETH.
Chains, apps, and middleware above it are all skimming off the money, while the base layer gets its “rent” squeezed down to dirt-cheap levels by Blobs.
People used to say Ethereum is the world’s settlement layer, and I thought that sounded pretty badass. But looking at this revenue breakdown now, the vibe has changed: Ethereum is responsible for world peace, while HOOD, UNI, and ARB are responsible for making money.
