AMC CEO slams Robinhood—what I see isn’t about protecting shareholders, it’s about old money realizing for the first time that it can’t control new money anymore! AMC CEO Adam Aron is demanding that Robinhood immediately stop trading AMC stock tokens, and the reason is simple: These aren’t AMC-authorized shares, they don’t come with voting rights, they’re not under the company’s control, and they’re being issued out of Jersey. He even described this as a fake market and said he’s getting lawyers involved to figure out how to forcefully shut it down. But the most ironic part of all this is: Back in the day, AMC was saved by Reddit retail investors, meme stocks, and the new money culture that platforms like Robinhood represent. Now, the same group of funds is moving stocks onto the blockchain, enabling 24/7 trading and global circulation. And Aron’s first reaction isn’t to embrace these people, but to say, “I didn’t approve this, shut it down.” This is classic old money thinking: assets must trade on exchanges I regulate, shareholders must be on the registries I approve, markets must operate during hours I control, and financial products should ideally have the issuer’s blessing first. But Crypto’s mindset is the complete opposite—if an asset has a price, someone will tokenize it, turn it into derivatives, collateral, perpetuals, and trade it globally 24/7. Now, Robinhood’s AMC token isn’t AMC stock in the legal sense—Aron isn’t wrong about that. But if Robinhood is truly backing these tokens 1:1 by purchasing the actual shares, then theoretically, every additional dollar of AMC demand on the blockchain could correspond to a dollar’s worth of real stock being bought. AMC isn’t being diluted, existing shareholders aren’t losing voting rights, and instead, there’s a new channel for global capital to access AMC’s price exposure. So what I don’t get about Aron is not that he’s warning investors this isn’t stock, but his instinctive hostility toward a new capital entry point. In 2021, AMC used new money to completely stun old finance. By 2026, when new money starts building its own exchanges, its own stock markets, and its own 24/7 capital markets, AMC’s CEO is standing at the door saying: You can’t play like this. What the hell is this nonsense?
