The Dutch central bank just quietly moved 86 tonnes of gold (~$12B) out of the US and Canada. Reason given: "geopolitical unrest."
They didn't ship it all. 59 tonnes were paper-swapped (sell in NY, rebuy in London). Only 27 tonnes moved physically, presumably with military escorts, chartered cargo jets, the whole thing. Took 5 months.
The bank didn't disclose costs or security details, but ballpark estimates for this kind of operation run $3M–$7M in logistics and insurance.
Meanwhile Bitcoin: $12B moved. ~$2 in fees. 30 minutes. No escorts, no borders, no politics.(Lark Davis)
