[BofA: 'Nonfarm Payrolls' Are Just an Appetizer for the Fed Meeting, Maintains September Rate Hike Prediction]
Bank of America stated that for the Federal Reserve's September 15-16 policy meeting, employment data is merely an appetizer. Analysts at the bank wrote: 'Nonfarm payroll data is unlikely to be the decisive factor for a rate hike in September. If the employment report shows significant weakness, it would reduce the probability of a hike, but the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is the core data point for determining whether the Fed proceeds with a rate hike. We maintain our prediction of a September rate hike.'
The analysts added, 'Unless the employment data significantly underperforms expectations, this Friday's report is unlikely to be the definitive factor resolving the policy differences within the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) for September. Waller's remarks at Jackson Hole suggested that the labor market remains stable and aligns with a state of full employment; at the same time, he emphasized that inflation remains above target and should be the Fed's primary focus.'
