Commissioned the expansion of the Rombo Clusters Irrigation Development Project, a KSh221 million investment in Kajiado South that will transform agriculture and livelihoods. We have expanded irrigated land from 2,983 acres to 5,500 acres across four schemes, giving thousands of farmers reliable access to water for food production throughout the year. The expanded project will strengthen food security for more than 6,000 households, create direct employment for over 6,000 families and support nearly 30,000 indirect jobs. Farmers will now be able to expand high-value horticulture, food crops and fruit-tree production, turning agriculture into a more reliable source of income and opportunity. This is part of our wider plan for Kajiado County, where 37 irrigation projects have been completed and 22 are ongoing, covering 14,887 acres and benefiting 74,434 farmers, with a cumulative investment of KSh2.5 billion. Across the country, we are implementing an ambitious programme to expand irrigation to 2.5 million acres, moving Kenya from dependence on unpredictable rain-fed agriculture to reliable, productive and climate-resilient farming.(William Samoei Ruto, PhD)
