World has open-sourced its zero-knowledge identity verification tool, ProveKit. This tool was previously used in World ID and allows users to locally generate zero-knowledge proofs on their phones or browsers, proving information like age, nationality, or possession of valid identification without revealing underlying personal data. World stated that ProveKit does not rely on external servers to process sensitive data, supports Noir, and can run on standard consumer-grade devices. Currently, ProveKit v1 is production-ready and primarily aimed at off-chain verification. ProveKit v2 is under development, with plans to further reduce proof size, generation time, and memory usage, while improving on-chain verification efficiency.
