The scariest thing about SpaceX is not rockets, nor Grok: it is eating up the entire cost chain of AI.
Gavin Baker mentioned in the latest interview with a16z that Grok, especially after the launch of Grok Bot, has significantly accelerated its growth.
Grok Bot has turned Agents into digital employees that ordinary people can directly hire - they have their own cloud computer that can operate web pages and software, work across applications, and continuously execute tasks 24 hours a day.
The question is: What is the biggest bottleneck when hundreds of millions of people start hiring AI to work?
Computing power.
SpaceXAI just ate this chain from beginning to end:
Grok Bot creates inference requirements, Grok provides models, Colossus and ground data centers provide computing power, Starlink is responsible for connectivity, and Starship is responsible for sending the next generation of computing power to the sky.
SpaceX management has summarized this combination themselves: Starship, ground GW level data center, AI model Starlink、 Orbital computing power Terafab, These businesses are not bulk platters, but rather feeding each other demand and reducing costs.
The first generation AI1 satellite announced by SpaceX is essentially a whole GPU rack flying in space:
On average, it is about 120kW, with a peak of about 150kW. The first generation solution requires approximately 200 Starship launches to deploy 1GW.
Musk's goal is to achieve an annualized 1GW of space AI computing power by the end of 2027, and then attempt to increase it by an order of magnitude each year thereafter.
As long as Starship can achieve high-frequency and fast reuse, the increasingly expensive land, electricity, cooling, and construction on Earth will make the economic balance very strange when faced with space solar energy and radiation heat dissipation.
This is also the scariest part of SpaceX: Grok won, it swallowed up massive computing power on its own and took away software profits. Grok ultimately did not win, and OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI companies still need more power, computing power, networking, and launch capabilities. SpaceX can also sell shovels below.
If the market still only understands SpaceX based on "rocket company+Starlink", it may indeed miss the biggest layer of options.
What it really wants to do is no longer the next OpenAI.
It wants to become the AWS+NVIDIA Cloud+global telecom operator+launch infrastructure of the AI era, and some of its servers are directly suspended in the sky.
