Tether releases open-source AI translation model that supports 19 African languages and can run offline Odaily Planet Daily News: Tether AI Research, an AI research team under Tether, announced the release of open-source AI translation models QVAC Translatepsy AfriSLM, QVAC Translatepsy AfriNano, and QVAC Translatepsy EuroNano, which support 19, 8 African languages, and 9 European languages, respectively, and can run offline locally on devices such as mobile phones and laptops. The TranslatPsy model can process translations without the need for networking, and user data is retained on the device. The Translatiepsy AfriSLM with only 800 million parameters performed better than Qwen3.5-122B-A10B, TranslatieGema-27B, and NLLB-3.3B in FLORES-200, BOUQuET, and SMOL benchmark tests. TranslatePsy EuroNano supports 90 translation directions between 9 European languages, and the minimum deployment version only requires 36MB of storage space, which is about 94% less than the same Firefox offline translation configuration.
