According to CrowdStrike and the U.S. Department of Justice, the Sality peer-to-peer botnet, active since 2003, has been successfully dismantled. Over the past 8 years, this network primarily deployed the EggJagger malware, which monitored infected devices' clipboards for Bitcoin and Ethereum wallet addresses and replaced them with the attackers' addresses, stealing at least $150,000 in crypto assets. Untransferred assets had once risen to approximately $1.35 million as of January 2025. CrowdStrike has isolated over 15,000 infected devices, while law enforcement agencies in the U.S., Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania simultaneously seized related domains.
