[Operating Digital Asset TF Until 2028, South Korea's Financial Services Commission Prepares for the Implementation of the Basic Act on Digital Assets] Odaily Planet Daily reports that the South Korean Financial Services Commission (FSC) announced it will operate the Digital Asset Task Force (TF) until 2028 to prepare for the formulation and implementation of the 'Basic Act on Digital Assets.' This includes advancing legislative preparations for subordinate regulations and building the foundational infrastructure for the digital asset ecosystem. The FSC stated that the existing digital asset regulatory framework has primarily focused on cracking down on illegal activities and preventing investor losses, but remains insufficient in terms of institutional development at the industry and market levels, such as operational practices, information disclosure, and asset issuance and circulation. The FSC plans to determine the main content of the 'Basic Act on Digital Assets' by 2026 through consultations with the Virtual Asset Committee, political parties, and the government, and will work to establish a more comprehensive regulatory system. South Korea is advancing the construction of a digital asset-related ecosystem, with expectations to improve infrastructure around associations and other institutions. Legislation related to the institutionalization of security tokens (ST) was reviewed by the National Assembly in January 2026 and is expected to be officially implemented in February 2027. The FSC will continue to refine relevant subordinate regulations and supporting systems.
