[Report: Bitcoin and Ethereum Require Only Three Entities to Reach Critical Control Threshold]
ARK Invest and Glassnode jointly released the 'Decentralization Spectrum' report, comparing three major blockchain networks across four design characteristics—auditability, security, governance, and ownership—and six quantifiable dimensions.
In terms of security, Bitcoin and Ethereum require only three entities to reach the critical control threshold, while Solana requires 19. Bitcoin miners can exit 1% of their positions in approximately 30 seconds, whereas Ethereum staking of the same scale may take weeks under stress.
Geographically, Bitcoin nodes are the most evenly distributed (63% operate via Tor), Ethereum relies on cloud service providers (approximately 20% of nodes are hosted on AWS), and Solana, by design, runs almost all its infrastructure in data centers.
