Coinbase just took a big step forward with Coinbase for Agents: AI Agents can now trade not only cryptocurrencies and futures but also S&P 500 stocks directly. With ChatGPT, Claude, and Claude Code connected to Coinbase MCP, Agents can directly check positions, view balances, preview orders, place market/limit orders, and rebalance portfolios. Stock trading pairs even come in formats like AAPL-USD and AAPL-USDC. I feel like Agentic Finance is truly starting to take shape. In the past, the most troublesome part of AI trading was the entire execution chain: exchange APIs, keys, account permissions, asset queries, order formats, order statuses, position management, and risk control. Now, Coinbase is standardizing this layer into financial tools that Agents can directly call. In the future, a trading Agent’s workflow might look like this: Read news + analyze on-chain data + review financial reports → decide whether BTC, ETH, NVDA, or AAPL is worth trading → check account → calculate positions → preview orders → place orders → monitor continuously → rebalance when conditions are triggered.
