[ECB Governing Council Member Nagel: Core Inflation Slowdown is a Positive Signal]
ECB Governing Council Member Nagel stated that the slowdown in core inflation in the Eurozone in August is a positive signal. He said: 'The good news is that the core inflation rate has declined, and inflation in the services sector has also eased.' He pointed out that currently, 'no second-round effects are visible in the core inflation rate.'
Nagel mentioned that the market outlook for the European Central Bank's interest rate decision next week is 'relatively predictable' and aligns with financial market expectations. The market has already fully priced in a 25 basis point rate hike.
Earlier in the day, data released showed that the Eurozone's inflation rate rose to 3.3% in August, further solidifying the case for the ECB's rate hike on September 10. However, the core inflation rate, which excludes volatile items such as food and energy, unexpectedly fell to 2.4%.
