[Hut 8 Texas Data Center Reportedly Included in Anthropic's $35 Billion AI Compute Deal] BlockBeats News, September 1: AI company Anthropic has reached a $35 billion compute procurement agreement with Lambda, an AI cloud service provider backed by NVIDIA. Part of the compute power will be supplied through Bitcoin mining company Hut 8's Beacon Point campus located in Nueces County, Texas. Hut 8 previously disclosed that the campus has signed two 15-year long-term lease agreements covering 704MW of IT capacity, with a total contract value of $19.6 billion over the lease term. However, the identity of the tenants was not revealed at the time. The campus spans 525 acres, with a maximum power access capacity of 1GW and ready grid connectivity. According to the currently disclosed transaction structure, NVIDIA holds the lease for the facility, Lambda will deploy NVIDIA chips, and Anthropic will procure the compute power generated. Hut 8 has not yet confirmed how much of the 704MW capacity is related to Lambda and Anthropic, nor has it confirmed whether NVIDIA is the previously undisclosed tenant. As demand for power and compute capacity from AI data centers surges, Bitcoin mining companies with ready power and grid access are accelerating their transition to AI infrastructure. Mining companies such as Hut 8, TeraWulf, IREN, and Bitdeer have entered the AI data center market by selling or leasing compute power and power infrastructure. Hut 8's revenue for the second quarter of this year was $74.93 million, an 81% year-over-year increase. The two Beacon Point leases, totaling $19.6 billion, are expected to generate approximately $1.31 billion in annual operating profit once the campus is fully operational. [Original Link]
