[RBC: Yen Remains Weak, BOJ May Hike Rates or Intervene in FX Market in Coming Weeks] Jin10 News, September 1 — Abbas Keshvani, an analyst at the Royal Bank of Canada, stated in a commentary that given the yen's weak performance, the Bank of Japan may hike rates or intervene in the foreign exchange market in the coming weeks. Over the past month, the yen has continued to weaken, and the recent depreciation trend has offset most of the BOJ's intervention effects from the past few months. Keshvani noted that to drive a significant rebound in the yen, the BOJ would need to adopt an aggressive rate hike cycle. However, the central bank is unlikely to implement such aggressive policies at the expense of economic growth. He added: 'The BOJ may raise rates to a level sufficient to prevent excessive yen depreciation until Japan's government bond market stabilizes next year, thereby creating conditions for the yen's recovery.'
