[Goldman Sachs and Other Institutions Expect Further Upside for the Korean Won as AI Boom Drives Capital Inflows]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on September 1, driven by capital inflows from the artificial intelligence boom, the Korean won has transformed from the worst-performing currency in Asia to the best-performing one. Strategists believe there is further room for appreciation in the future. BNP Paribas stated that as South Korean chip companies repatriate funds from overseas to expand production, the Korean won is likely to continue its upward trend, though the pace of appreciation may be relatively slow. Goldman Sachs noted that equity capital inflows attracted by the rise in the South Korean stock market will also support the won. Natixis believes that South Korea's export growth will boost the won. Goldman Sachs predicts that the USD/KRW exchange rate will rise to 1,350 over the next 12 months, with the specific degree of appreciation depending on the performance of South Korea's Kospi Index.
