[Bessent Refutes Concerns Over U.S. Debt Market Pressure] Odaily Planet Daily News – U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent on Sunday refuted concerns about the rising scale of U.S. debt and criticism of the Treasury Department's measures to manage market volatility, stating that market performance contradicts claims of investor unease. Bessent said: 'First of all, I’m not sure where this so-called bond market turmoil is,' noting that the U.S. bond market has 'performed the best' among major global bond markets this year. Bessent also stated that the U.S. is in a more favorable position compared to many developed economies because, despite facing a massive budget deficit, its economy continues to grow. Bessent mentioned that energy prices and inflationary pressures stemming from the Iran conflict have pushed up yields, but he expects these factors to subside over time. He added that the rise in yields reflects confidence in the U.S. economy. Bessent further dismissed concerns raised by some central bank policymakers over the Treasury Department's unexpected increase in Treasury buyback operations, denying that the measure distorts the market or disrupts the traditionally predictable operations of the U.S. Treasury market.
