One-Fifth of Argentina's Population Uses Cryptocurrency, Crypto Payments Becoming a Daily Habit

According to analysis by a16z crypto, one-fifth of Argentina's population uses cryptocurrency, making it one of the countries in Latin America with the highest adoption rate. Stablecoins (especially USD-pegged stablecoins) were initially an emergency solution to cope with currency controls and hyperinflation. However, even after economic pressures eased, people continued to use them, gradually forming a habit. Among Argentine peso crypto transactions, 94% flow into stablecoins, the highest percentage among major currencies tracked by Artemis. Although Argentina's monthly inflation rate has dropped from a peak of 25.5% to 2.1%, downloads of mainstream crypto wallets like Lemon continue to grow, and the use of stablecoins for salaries has stabilized rather than disappeared. As of July 2026, the proportion of Argentine contract workers receiving payments in USDC and the inflation index both remain at about one-fifth of their respective peak levels.
