[Iceland Referendum Rejects Restarting EU Membership Talks, MiCA Not Yet Applicable]
Odaily Planet Daily News – On August 30, Iceland held a referendum in which 52.8% of voters, totaling 105,339 votes, opposed restarting negotiations to join the European Union. As a result, Iceland will continue to remain a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) and within the framework of the Schengen Agreement. As an EEA member but not an EU member state, Iceland is currently not automatically subject to the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), with cryptocurrency activities primarily regulated under general financial laws. MiCA is expected to be incorporated into the EEA Agreement in the future, but there is currently no official timeline. (Bitcoin.com News)
