Crypto and Mass Adoption have been waiting for years, and everyone assumes it means waiting for more people to join in. But the next wave of users who truly adopt on-chain financial services might not even be human. In Fidelity's research this week on AI and Digital Assets, they directly mentioned a possibility: AI Agents could become a new type of Blockchain User, capable of continuous transactions and directly utilizing programmable financial services. When applied to Agents, this logic actually makes a lot of sense. An Agent that can independently call services, manage funds, and execute transactions doesn’t care about bank opening hours or the concept of weekdays and weekends. What it needs is instant settlement, software that can directly interact, and ideally, no need for manual authorization at every step. Public Blockchains happen to provide these features. But this competition isn’t something Crypto can play alone. Banks, payment networks, exchanges, and tech companies are all building their own Agent Infrastructure. For machines, they won’t naturally choose Blockchain just because of the buzzwords “decentralization.” In the end, it’s still about which system is more practical and efficient. Fidelity even mentioned in their research that compared to simply having Agents make payments, the areas that could generate more fees and economic demand are actually trading, lending, and asset management. This makes the intersection of AI × Crypto quite different. In the past, discussions about Mass Adoption always revolved around teaching more people how to use wallets, private keys, and operate on-chain. In the future, it might flip: machines won’t need to learn any of that—they’ll just need a financial system they can directly interact with. Whether that system will be Blockchain is still uncertain. But if it is, the next wave of major Crypto users might not even glance at a wallet interface.
