According to CertiK data, in the first half of 2026, 52 verified cryptocurrency-related exploits occurred globally, with 33 of them taking place in France. French prosecutors have also accused a tax department employee of using government databases to identify cryptocurrency investors and selling personal information to criminals involved in physical attacks and extortion. While the latest data breach has not been publicly linked to any physical attacks, the sensitive financial and location data of hundreds of thousands of individuals may no longer be under government control.
