Dario's Bold Claim: The future world might only have Anthropic and governments Gavin Baker dropped a bombshell: Dario once said internally at Anthropic that one day, Anthropic might become the only private company in the world. Baker then made this vision even clearer: if things go according to the Anthropic maximalist playbook, it’ll end up being just Anthropic + governments, with no other companies left. Currently, investors are discussing Anthropic’s October IPO, with an estimated valuation of around $2 trillion. By the end of the year, annualized revenue might even hit $100–120 billion. An even more ambitious internal projection mentioned in interviews is: if 10x growth continues, the next stop could be hundreds of billions or even trillions in revenue. This is no longer just about how many subscriptions Claude can sell. What Anthropic is really betting on is this: AI Agents will gradually take over programming, research, customer service, operations, finance, legal work, and other knowledge-intensive tasks. Things that used to require a bunch of software and employees to accomplish will, in the future, be handled directly by calling a model. So while the idea of a world with only Anthropic and governments might sound like a wild claim, the ambition behind it is crystal clear: They’re not aiming to be the next software giant—they want to be the operating system for private economic activity. If an AI company is truly starting to think about its TAM (Total Addressable Market) on this scale, then future debates around open source, compute power, antitrust, and AI governance are likely to become far more intense than they are now.
