Right before OpenAI's IPO, there's been a sudden major shake-up. A wave of key executives left within a month! Sam Altman's right-hand person, Fidji Simo, stepped down due to health reasons. Longtime executive and former COO Brad Lightcap also left, and Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser, who had been in the role for less than a year, is gone too. At the same time, the ethics lead, safety lead, chief futurist, and key personnel previously in charge of AI safety have all been leaving one after another. If it were just one or two people, it could be called normal turnover. But replacing people across operations, revenue, safety, and alignment all at once in such a short time feels more like restructuring the management team ahead of the IPO.
