Codex users, the ultimate 'plugin' you’ve been waiting for is here. An open-source project that packs Claude, Kimi, DeepSeek, Grok, Gemini, Qwen, MiniMax… all into Codex. The project is called **Codex Router**. What it does is super simple: From now on, you can just use Codex—you’re no longer tied to OpenAI. Want to use Claude? No need to open Claude Code. Want to try DeepSeek? No need to set up a whole new tool. Same goes for Kimi, Grok, and Gemini. Once installed, these models will appear directly in Codex’s model selector. Your existing projects, MCP, Skills, tool calls, and Agent workflows all stay in Codex. You can swap out the actual 'brain' doing the work whenever you want. You can even connect Ollama and integrate local models from your own computer. This is the most exciting part of the project. Before, it was like this: Choosing a model = Choosing an AI coding tool. If you used Claude, you had to go into Claude Code. If you used OpenAI, you had to go into Codex. If you wanted to try Kimi, you had to switch to yet another setup. Now, Codex Router is separating these two things: Codex serves as the workstation, and the models do the work. In the future, you can use the strongest model, the cheapest one, or the newest one that just dropped—all without having to uproot your entire coding workflow. The project was only created on **July 19** and already has **2000+ Stars**, with updates rolling out like crazy. It’s still in Beta, so there will definitely be compatibility issues and some setup effort involved. But if you’re a heavy Codex/Vibe Coding user, this project is seriously addictive. One Codex to rule them all, eating up a bunch of AI coding clients. Open-source repo link in the comments https://(x.com)/ziwenxu_/status/2087648212811202754/video/1
