[South Korea to Expand Crypto Operator Review Scope to Major Shareholders Starting August 20]
According to News1, South Korea will expand the registration review scope for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP) to include major shareholders starting August 20. If there are changes to major shareholders or the company's legal compliance framework, operators must notify financial authorities 30 days in advance.
The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) announced the revised registration manual during a briefing session held in Seoul on August 13 for virtual asset service providers and potential operators. The review targets not only the largest shareholders and major shareholders holding more than 10% of shares but also shareholders with special ties to the largest shareholder. If the largest shareholder is a corporation, the corporation's largest shareholder and representative may also be included in the review scope.
